WATCH HUTS

Watch Hut 'Pela '  is a temporary lodge to chase away birds & wild elephants during the day or night.


History

A farmer lived in one of the watch huts before but had to leave due to wild elephants roaming around  in the morning while he took his children to the village school.

Geography

Habarana is located in the dry zone & during the months starting from June, July, August, September the lakes dry up. The wild elephants in the region have no water to quench their thirst feeding too becomes a major issue when the grass they feed on become dry.
